Quilted Maple Double Crescent Inay Banding Jewelry Box, 9"x12"x9", with two drawers.

$950, delivered . Available at $550 without drawers, or $825.00 with one drawer.

The quilted maple jewelry boxes I have in stock for 2008 have absoluely exquisite quilted maple!

Quilted maple veneer, with matching inlay banding with ebony, and walnut legs and stretchers form this dramatic, classic beauty. The top veneer is shop sawn at 1/16" from same spectacular board as matching inlay banding. The dovetailed drawers slides with sensual precision. Stretchers' tenons are mortised into the legs. These are, I believe, the finest jewelry boxes being made in the US today, with interiors featuring storage details that make them as superior functuionally as they are beautiful. See below for photo of the box open.

Open shot showing necklace and earring provisions. Necklaces hang from 10 solid brass hooks and are held in place by padded spring closed hinged upper tab, which puts a slight tension on the chains, preventing sagging and entanglement. Most boxes with necklace storage in the lid rely on cheap elastic closed pouches that allow sagging even when new, and age like the band of a pair of BVD's. Our necklace holder is built for the ages, and opens and closes with the flick of a finger. Earrings are hung from slots in tray, and those best hung from holes from a row in front at bottom, altogether holding about 20 pairs of earrings.

Close-up of the removable earring tray. There is a two slot ring pad on the right, and flat storage on black velveteen in back on the left, with a handle in the middle for lifting the tray.
The removable tray can sit either low to the rear, or higher in front, allowing full access to the divided space beneath without interfering with the necklace box or solid brass hooks.

The drawers are graduated in depth, with the deeper bottom drawer containing a two slot ring pad on the right. This drawer is deep enough to house a very large ring. The drawer fronts are dovetailed into the walnut drawer sides - a beautiful detail when the drawers are opened. They are precision fitted on wooden glides, and are equipped with spring loaded stops that prevent accidental removal of the drawer, but allow its removal with a swift tug. All drawer and box bottom dividers fit into routed slots, so they won't end up becoming loose annoyances. The drawer pulls are sculpted from ebony, tapered to the rear for a positive grip, and polished to a sensuous shine. The box is finished with several coats of handrubbed tung oil and varnish, a finish that will develop a beautiful patina from years of handling, and can be easily touched up by the owner if it is accidentally damaged or scuffed.

Detail shot of the top, just begins to capture the richness of the amazing quilted maple used in this box. The visual depth is such that you have to touch it to assure yourself it is indeed flat. And with the sensuously soft hand-rubbed tung oil and varnish finish, touching the box is a pleasure.
